This was the first series of works I put together after acquiring my studio. The pieces were created in response to a friends pop-up exhibition they had put on in Birmingham.

The pieces were done in acrylics each one with a limited palette of Blues Reds and pinks, the overarching theme of the piece was the kola nuts in Igbo Tradition, in my tradition the is used to welcome guests into one's home, It is into pieces and shared with visitors to create a space and an understanding that there is shared respect and safety within one's home. This idea really connected with me and my expiration of community found family And what it means to connect with others. I had the idea to take this tradition And expand it into a forced space as there are many spaces intentionally or not Designed to keep others out The idea for this was a space forcing everyone into an equitable and equal standard. Force is a heavy word but it is intentional. a lot of the images show the branches of the colonnade tree expand from the cola nuts itself and wherever the routes reach those within its space are welcome.
